We have all been there. Desperate to get rid of an unwanted blemish as quickly as possible all while not necessarily having the money to go out and buy the best skin products money can buy to get rid of it. At home treatments can sometimes be hit and miss and I have tried my fair share, here are a few at home treatments that have given results and why they have stood the test of time despite the ever-growing skin care world.
Ance is caused by many things including genetics, diet, stress, hormones, and even infections, and it is important to place the cause of your acne to know how to properly treat it.
- Apple Cider Vinegar:
Due to being made from unfiltered juice and pressed apples, like other vinegars it has been known to fight different types of bacteria and fungi like acne, though it may irritate skin as well.
-Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar with 3 parts water, and use even more water if you have sensitive skin
-After you cleanse your skin, apply the mixture to the skin with a cotton ball.
-Let it sit for 5-20 seconds and then rinse with water and pat dry
Repeat the process 1-2 times a day as needed.
2. Honey and cinnamon mask:
It has been found that the combinination of honey and cinnamon create an antibacterial effect against acne.
-Mix 2 tablespoons of honey with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to form a paste
-After cleansing your skin, apply the mask and leave on your face for 10-15 minutes
-Rinse off the mask completely and pat face dry.
3. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an essential oil. It is extracted from the leaves of a tree native to Australia. It has been found that applying tea tree oil to the skin can reduce acne.
-Mix 1 part tea tree oil with water (about 9 parts)
– Dip a cotton swab into the mixture and apply to the affected acne areas
– Repeat 1-2 times per day as needed.
4. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera moisturizes, reduces inflammation and encourages skin regeneration.
– Apply aloe vera over affected areas and leave on over night.
– In the morning rinse off thoroughly.
5. Rice Water:
Rice water is getting more a more popular. Rice has a lot of nutrients that help fade acne scars and just brighten overall complexion.
– Soak half a cup of rice in a bowl for 15-20 minuts
– Strain the rice and pour into a spray bottle.
– Spray onto acne and acne scars
You can’t store rice water, and it has to be fresh every time you use it.
6. Banana, rice flour, and yogurt
The banana has vitamin C that helps stimulate collagen production. The rice flour and yogurt help scrub away dead skin cells while also moisturizing. Yogurt also has probiotics that help in reducing skin inflammation.
– Mash up half a ripe banana and add 1 tablespoon of rice flour and 1 tablespoon of yogurt
-Spread this mixture on affected areas and leave on for 20 minutes.
-Rinse off thoroughly
7. Dandruff shampoo/ conditioner
Dandruff shampoo can help with fungal acne because it contains ingredients that fight yeast overgrowth. Dandruff shampoo contains zinc pyrithione and selenium sulfide which are ingredients know to fight fungal overgrowth.
– Use just as you would any other acne product. Rub onto face thoroughly and then rinse off
– Repeat daily as needed.
8. Hypochlorous acid spray
Hypochlorous acid is a antimicrobial that can help treat acne. It does this by killing the bacteria that are known to clog pores and cause breakouts.
9. Turmeric Face Mask
The benefits of a Turmeric face mask include brightened skin that helps the appearance of uneven tone thus leaving clearer skin.
– wash hands and face
– combine 1 tablespoon of raw honey with 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric powder
-apply mixture to face and allow to sit for 15 minutes
-rinse off with warm water
10. Flaxseed Masks
Flaxseed Masks are popular because they contain healthy fats and vitamin E and has anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties.
-mix 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of yogurt.
-Apply onto face
-let sit for 15-20 minutes
-rinse with warm water.
